Any fans of horror video games?
I love horror games. With a passion that made people question my mental-state when I was young. I think, when done properly, it can rival film as the best medium to consume the genre.
Everyone has THAT horror film that got them hooked. For me, it wasn't a movie at all. It was the first Resident Evil game on the PS1. When I was just a wee-lad, I'd sneak the console and game into my room and test my luck. And every time, upon reaching the first zombie in that iconic hallway, I'd turn the TV off. It kept me awake, but it never stopped me from trying again the next night.
And my love for horror was born.
The point of that story? I have a deep passion for horror gaming. Which naturally means, like most people, I loved Alan Wake. It made me, a primary PlayStation gamer, buy an Xbox 360 in the height of the legendary Console Wars.
So when I heard Alan Wake was returning, I nearly threw a chair out my kitchen window in excitement. FINALLY! A sequel... I thought.
Then I learned the truth
It's not an official sequel.
And I after I read that, I DID throw a chair through my kitchen window. But not in excitement.
Then, I read the rest of the details, and my excitement quickly rose again.
Alan Wake IS returning... but in a DLC for Remedy's other game, CONTROL. The newest DLC for the game will drop on August 27th, and will be titled "AWE." And apparently Alan Wake will play some sort of role...
The provided description for the AWE DLC is: "AWE will take Bureau Director Jesse Faden to the Investigations Sector of the Oldest House, where the Federal Bureau of Control closely examines Altered World Events (AWE) – happenings where paranatural forces breach our world with sometimes grave consequences. Players will be required to enter the Investigations Sector and confront the creature lurking within this long-abandoned part of the Bureau. To reclaim the Investigations Sector from its clutches, Jesse will need to explore the Altered World Events investigated here, including one from the town of Bright Falls where Jesse learns more about the disappearance of the writer Alan Wake."
I haven't gotten around to playing Control... but now I'll make sure I do. Of course, this news isn't as exciting as if they DID announce Alan Wake 2. But, let's hope this leads to that possibility in the future...
Are you excited for this Remedy Games crossover?
AWE will be released on August 27th for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
