BREAKING: The Walking Dead Officially Ending After Season 11

I have been a hardcore fan of The Walking Dead since it premiered back in 2010.

Sure, the show has had it's fair share of issues. And I'm not a blind fanboy. But I see and LOVE the best aspects of the series. And will defend it til my dying day.

(As I write this, I am currently debating the quality of the series with Cult Leader Z)

And the day I have been fearing has finally came. AMC has announced the show is ending after Season 11...

That GIF best portrays how I'm feeling at the moment.

But there may be some light at the end of this long, long tunnel. AMC has also announced that the final season will consist of 24 episodes, instead the normal 16.

And, there was also TWO new spin-offs announced to premier after the conclusion of TWD. Those two spin-offs will be:

1.) An anthology series. Which I'm going to assume will be the project Scott Gimple talked about last year when he said The Walking Dead franchise could tell stories of long dead, and not dead characters. (I have my fingers crossed for Governor and Negan origin stories.)

2.) A Daryl and Carol Spin-Off.

TO BE FAIR... Daryl and Carol are the last remaining survivors from Season 1. (Not including the M.I.A. Rick Grimes.) So... The Daryl/Carol spin-off can be considered a continuation of the main series, in my opinion.

Now, The Walking Dead has been confirmed to be coming to end. But the same can't be said about all the other shows in The Walking Dead universe.

Fear The Walking Dead Season 6 is still airing this fall. And as far as we know, that show will still thrive after season 6.

And the second spin-off, The Walking Dead: World Beyond which has been described as a two season "event" is coming this fall as well.

And on top of that, we still have the Rick Grimes focused feature films of the way!

So it's clear the The Walking Dead flagship show is ending, but The Walking Dead franchise still has a lot of fuel left in it's tank.

Here is what Scott Gimple (The head of the whole Walking Dead universe) had to say about this:

"It’s been 10 years ‘gone bye;’ what lies ahead are two more to come and stories and stories to tell beyond that. What’s clear is that this show has been about the living, made by a passionate cast, team of writer/producers, producers, and crew, bringing to life the vision put forth by Robert Kirkman in his brilliant comic — and supported by the best fans in the world. We have a lot of thrilling story left to tell on TWD, and then, this end will be a beginning of more Walking Dead — brand new stories and characters, familiar faces and places, new voices, and new mythologies. This will be a grand finale that will lead to new premieres. Evolution is upon us. The Walking Dead lives”

Current show-runner Angela Kang said this:

“I look forward to digging in with our brilliant writers, producers, directors, cast and crew to bring this epic final chapter of Robert Kirkman’s story to life for our fans over the next two years. The Walking Dead flagship series has been my creative home for a decade and so it’s bittersweet to bring it to an end, but I could not be more excited to be working with Scott Gimple and AMC to develop a new series for Daryl and Carol. Working with Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride has been a highlight of my career and I’m thrilled that we get to keep telling stories together.”
