Zack Snyder's Upcoming Dawn Of The Dead Successor Re-Cast's Major Role

Zack Snyder became a household name for film and horror fanatic's very quickly. His directorial debut was 2004's Dawn Of The Dead. The Script was written by James Gunn (Writer/Director Of Guardians Of The Galaxy). Quite the duo, right?

Widely considered to be one of the best zombie films of all time, and one of the best remakes, 2004's Dawn Of The Dead lit the spark of zombie culture that burned bright during the late 2000's into the early 2010's. And is still going strong in many ways!

With all of that being said, I've always wanted Zack Snyder to return to the world of flesh eating, rated-R goodness. And finally he is!

Army Of The Dead will be the spiritual successor of Dawn Of The Dead, and will be Snyder's return to filmmaking after leaving Justice League during filming.

Synopsis: "A zombie plague hits Vegas, and they’re able to contain the virus to the city – they build a wall out of shipping containers. And then the city falls. And six years later, one of the casino owners hires this group of zombie soldiers to go get his money that he left in a safe in the casino."

But The Hollywood Reporter recently reported that a cast member has been re-cast, after filming has already been completed.

Chris D'Elia was originally cast. But after reports of sexual harassment allegations, he was cut from the film. He will now be replaced by Tig Notaro (Star Trek: Discovery) .

Chris is on the left, Tig on the right.

I find it interesting that a male character is being turned into a female character post-production. I'm a big fan of Tig Notaro, so I'm sure the finished product will turn out good!

As for how replacing a whole character after the film has already completed filming will work, THR said: "the film will now undergo a quick round of reshoots to incorporate Notaro’s role...Due to actors being already dispersed post-filming and due to pandemic restrictions, the incorporation will be a combination of techniques, from actually reshooting scenes opposite an acting partner to using green screen and CG technology to blend her in."

Anyway, Army Of The Dead is being directed by Snyder, who will also serve as the cinematographer. And he co-wrote the script as well. It is staring Dave Bautista (Guardians Of The Galaxy, Stuber), Garret Dillahunt (Fear The Walking Dead) and Ella Purnell (Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children).

It will be distributed by Netflix and release sometime in 2021!
